typical conventions found in a film trailer

Typical of all genres
·         They tell the general plot of the movie in a highly condensed fashion compressing maximum appeal into a short amount of time, attracting the target audience
·         Use some of the best scenes of the film to attract the audience (but not giving away too much)
·         The music matches the mood of the film
·         Inform the audience of the film's rating, release date and production team
Horror
·         Frighten, panic and alarm the audience
·         Plays upon common fears
·         May use blood or shocking images
·         Unusual shot angles
·         Uses suspense building music
·         Quick cut shots, with frequent use of black screens
·         The colour red is used quite often as it represents fear and danger
Romcom
·         Close up of characters to convey their emotions
·         Upbeat music used (usually pop music)
·         More dialogue – demonstrates jokes and conversations
·         Establishes main character, love interest and enemy
·         Use of voiceover to convey the story - the character may be the narrator, and this would demonstrate their emotions rather than the storyline
Action
·         Shows good vs. evil
·         Boost in contrast - teal and orange are frequent colours used
·         Shows points of jeopardy
Sci-fi
·         Illustrates special effects
Crime
·         Use of weapons
